Fire Chief Romines
Letter From the Chief

March 24, 2009

Citizens of Graham Fire & Rescue:

In August of 2008, your Board of Fire Commissioners presented a bond measure to the citizens of Graham Fire & Rescue to upgrade and/or build three new fire stations to better provide service to our citizens. With outstanding citizen support, the bond measure passed with 63.31% approval. Today we are currently in the process of building two new fire stations. The remodel of a third station will begin soon. These stations are located in areas identified to improve service to our citizens.

Station No. 5 is located in the Frederickson Community at 18721 78th Ave. East; currently a two vehicle garage. The Fire District purchased the green residential house to the south of the garage to acquire enough property to build the new fire station. Today, response crews reside in the house and respond out of the garage. Once the permit process with the County is complete, possibly by late summer, construction will begin on the new fire station. Crews will respond again from the location when the new station is completed. The planned 8,000 square feet station will house up to six fire fighters 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Station No. 6 will be located on a 4-acre piece of property at the corner of 128th and 224th. The District used computer response modeling to locate this new station. The station design work is complete and permit application was made on February 27, 2009. We estimate the permit process will take up to six months. Stations No. 5 and Station No. 6 are identical in design except for the addition of a Training Division wing on the latter station. Overall savings in architecture and construction costs will be realized by using the same station design.

Station No. 2 in the Kapowsin area is also presently a two vehicle garage. Additional acreage will be purchased or a new location found as the present site is not large enough to build a station. Staff is reviewing purchase options and will make a property recommendation to the Board of Fire Commissioners in the near future.

Shortly after our citizens passed the bond measure last year the economy started to recede. The administration and Board of Fire Commissioners of Graham Fire & Rescue are thankful for the support given by our citizens and are committed to building the needed fire stations as efficiently as possible. By the spring of 2011 we hope to have two new stations built to serve our community, with a third station built or remodeled the following year. Please contact me at (253) 847-8811 or rromines@grahamfire.org if I can provide you more information on the fire stations or any other question you may have about your fire department.

Respectfully Submitted,
Reggie Romines, Fire Chief
