Bicycle Safety Citations
Graham Fire & Rescue and South Pierce Fire & Rescue are excited to partner with Subway in an effort to eliminate head and other injuries that result from unsafe bicycling practices.

Beginning now and continuing through the end of 2006, fire personnel that witness safe bicycling habits will reward the riders with a "Bicycle Safety Citation" that entitles the rider to a FREE Deli Round sandwich at the local participating Subway store.

Bicycle injuries are a major cause of hospitalization for children ages 5-14 and 75%of bicycle related deaths involve a head injury. The use of a bicycle helmet can cause significant reduction in serious head injuries and fatalities. In fact, 85% of head injuries could be prevented by the use of helmets. Ride with safety in mind.

Graham Fire & Rescue will be watching your bicycle safety practices. They will reward that action with a Subway "Bicycle Safety Citation". Congratulations in advance from Subway and Graham Fire & Rescue.

Great Escape Contest:
In 1998, a house fire claimed the lives of two family members. There were no smoke alarms and no escape plan. Fire and rescue teams were deeply upset and tried to devise a way to teach families about fire safety. Graham Fire & Rescue, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and Puyallup Fire Department devised the Great Escape Contest. The contest is offered to 5th graders.

Starting each January, kids are taught about fire safety for their families with a video and live presentation. Then each child is asked to draw and practice with their family, an escape plan which includes two ways out of every room, a nearby meeting place outside of the home and locations of smoke alarms.

All drawings are judged and eight winners (one from each elementary school) are chosen. The winners receive tickets for themselves and two family members to the Puyallup Spring Fair and all eight winners ride in fire engines in the Daffodil Parade.

Daffodil Parade:
The Grand Floral Street Parade is the highlight of Daffodil Festival week. The parade travels through the four cities of Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting and consists of approximately 40 float entries and over 80 other entries, including bands, drill teams and horseback groups. The floats are decorated with fresh-cut daffodils, numbering in the thousands.

Graham Fire & Rescue always enters and drives an engine in the parade. The winners of the Great Escape Contest win the right to ride the engines during the parade. The Daffodil Festival will be celebrating it's 74th year during the 2007 season.

New Firehouse:
Graham Fire & Rescue has finished building the new fire station. The new station is to be staffed 24/7 and has administration, response and training facilities. The training/meeting rooms will be available to the community for meetings and other community events. Call the office to reserve meeting rooms. Fire Safety Tip

Trapped: In a fire, if you cannot get out of your room, close all doors between you and the fire. Stuff clothes in the cracks around the door to prevent smoke from entering. Signal from a window with a flashlight or something bright colored. If possible, call 911 and notify them of your location. More Safety Tips >
